Instagram is making some changes in regards to posting videos, see what I have to say about it.
Huge amazing video news (as I predicted 6 months ago) released today as Instagram blog announced they will be increasing video time from 15 seconds to 60 seconds in order to allow us to create more engaging videos and relationships with our followers! This is yet another advancement in Instagram’s evolution to retain users and entice them to create more videos. Instagram noted that they’ve seen 40% growth in video posts in the last several months. Instagram’s blog post today (March 29, 2016) stated:
We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you’ll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you’ll see this year. -Instagram
In my Advanced Training Course, Chapter 3, Episode 19 (recorded 6 months ago) I explain and predict how there is huge opportunity for users posting videos and that “Instagram is going to continue to promote people who post videos and for the most part we don’t see too many videos when we explore the discovery/search”. I reiterate the opportunity that exists for people creating or posting videos on Instagram. There will be so much more money for us Instagram Influencers to make thanks to the ability to create 60 second videos, not to mention string together various video clips to create stories for our followers!

This past weekend I saw even more Beta testing on my Android app (see screenshots below). As you can see below my discovery/search page was showing massive video thumbnail suggestions, not just at the top, but through my scroll of each new refresh! Instagram is testing the best ways for us users to engage and discover new video content.
Instagram’s latest iOS app version 7.19 now allows you to select multiple video clips to create a 15 second post. This is slowly getting us users ready for when we have the 60 second Instagram video capability (rolled out for everyone in the coming months) and can create Snapchat like stories to further engage our followers. As you can see, even Instagram realizes how powerful storytelling is which SnapChat currently reigns king in the social network world.
Several months ago thanks to my Android Beta Testing Instagram App I started seeing Instagram’s discovery/search page contain a video thumbnail greyed out in the top left corner (see below) and if clicked it would bring you to a series of videos Instagram had curated based on your interests. It lasted for a couple days then the feature disappeared. We also started to see more and more videos in the discovery/search page in the last 6 months.
This isn’t my first prediction that has come true about how Instagram is evolving. I also predicted 6 months ago in my Advanced Training Course, Chapter 5, Episode 57 that Instagram would eventually ban 3rd party apps that use it’s API to automate user actions like: follow accounts, unfollow accounts, and comment on others posts. Then in November 2015, we witnessed the First Major Instagram API Update which explained how they would be removing access that allowed apps like (Instagress, Likestagram & Crowdfire) from operating. There are even Instagram courses who’s entire growth strategy revolves around using these apps. Good luck with that strategy come July 2016 when Instagram makes those services obsolete. Instagram wants to ensure they keep their network as organic as possible to delay the inevitable decay of any social network that allows automated or even scheduled postings like Facebook & Twitter. Lets see how long Instagram can last without selling out to automation options!
